About Mark

Coffee, Old Cars, and Grace

Mark Fast is a tri-vocational pastor who drives a semi truck during the week, writes on the weekends, and preaches on Sundays, all from a small town in Washington State. His stories are about ordinary people who run into an awesome God and find more grace than they went looking for. When he isn’t behind the wheel or the pulpit, he’s probably at the keyboard with a cup of coffee. He multitasks as a husband, dad, and grandfather all at the same time.

Mark also has a passion for old cars and things mechanical, and it shows in his writing. He’s partial to orphan and oddball cars like the Tucker, the Imperial, the Kaiser, and… well, you get the idea.

If you had to sum up his ministry in one passage, it would be James chapter five: “Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it didn’t rain on the earth for three years and six months.” Mark puts other names in Elijah’s place, like David, Gideon, and Adam, and builds stories around them. Because, after all, Gideon was a man with a nature like ours, and so was David. They were flawed, imperfect individuals that the Christian world has made into heroes more perfect than us. Christ is the only One who is perfect, and we are perfected through Him. Mark travels to churches and other venues to preach that passage, bringing the Bible to life through an ordinary person’s eyes.

Bring the Story to Your Church

One Sunday, one weekend, or a conference. Small churches and rural gatherings aren’t the exception, they’re the point.

  • A Sunday

One gathering. One message from Just Like Us (James 5:17).

    • A single service
    • A message about a Bible personality whose name is substituted for Elijah’s
    • Depending on the size of the audience, Mark interacts with the audience in conversational teaching, not one-way preaching.
    • Rural and small churches welcome
  • A weekend

Two or three times with the same church.

    • For churches with more than one service: a Saturday evening service, several morning services, and sometimes an evening service.
    • A message about a Bible personality whose name is substituted for Elijah’s
    • Rural and small churches welcome
  • Conferences, Conventions and Seminars

One message or a full track, for gatherings beyond the local church.

    • A keynote, a breakout session, or a multi-session track
    • Built around James 5:17 and the people of Scripture who were just like us
    • Fits pastors’ retreats, men’s and women’s events, and ministry conferences
    • Planned with your schedule and theme in mind
